Skymill – Turning Forecasts Into Funding

Skymill isn't your average smart home gadget. Designed by Gustav Rosén and developed in collaboration with Swedish design brand Klong, it's a kinetic weather display that turns forecasts into physical motion. Block Zero partnered with the team to bring the vision to market — building the story, campaign, and launch strategy for this unique piece of tech-powered design.

The result was a Kickstarter campaign that reached over 500 backers and surpassed the €150.000 goal in funding — placing it among the top 5% of all Kickstarter campaigns ever by amount raised.

We had to make sense of what Skymill does, without giving away all the magic.

Building a Story That Moves

We began by crafting a narrative that could frame Skymill not just as a product, but as a new kind of relationship with weather. From video scripting and voice direction to naming conventions and design copy, everything was built around emotional resonance and simplicity.

We had to make sense of what Skymill does, without giving away all the magic. The final script blended concept, utility, and craft into a tight narrative that formed the core of the campaign.

When building the campaign, Skymill only existed as a prototype, creating the need for realistic 3D renders and animations.

Designing the Launch

Since Skymill didn't exist in the world yet, we had to simulate it — creating high-fidelity renders and animations, placing Skymill into environments that resonated with the target audience, while accurately representing the materials, movement and feel of the product. These assets drove everything from the campaign page to online ads and press kits.
